The Elm Bonsai is a hardy deciduous tree that presents a dominant presence in any bonsai garden grouping.  The Elm produces wide spreading branches that give an overall dome shape the tree.  The bark of the Elm Bonsai is a dull gray brown color.  The gray brown makes an attractive base and as the tree ages the bark will have more breaks in it.  The leaves take the shape of a pear although some are more oval than others.  The dull green leaves are very slender, slightly pointed and are very coarse to touch.  In the fall, the dull green leaves will turn all shades of yellow before falling from the tree.
